Acquire the knowledge

:Kickwell - login *****:

You know what irks me?

Ringtone rap.

You know the type. I ain't calling nobody out. But the ish is raggedy. Two-note garbage.

Now don't get me wrong, hiphop isn't about arpeggios and signature changes, at least not all the time. It's a feeling; that rawness that makes you screw your face up and punch the air. And some cats are still at it today. You've got your Mos Def, Redman, shoot - Lil Wayne is cold as hell. Producers like Kanye are definitely mean. The list is long enough to make us happy, right? But the best of hiphop today; the best to come tomorrow, can only hope to match one song. Because they'll never eclipse it. It's the gold standard; it taken the measure of every track that has followed it. And the ish is all flow. No hook. The ish is all drums! But it defines hiphop in my eyes. Ready?

I actually don't have anything else to say.

Sucka MC's are still at it today. I'm sorry but Kanye has outlived his stay the way he's outgrown his britches. Touch the sky was a tragedy and all the bullshit he talks has him fast on track to Junkyville. Or at the very least, Bumtown. I think his career mirrors Diddy in that he's just recycling hits and trying to pretend he's the one that put the gold sheen on them in the first place. I swear I liked Harder, better faster, stronger long before he touched it and he sure didn't make me like it any more. I dig Mos and Common though. All the shit talking they do are through rhyme and they don't start any internet feuds with magazines. What a nerd. Bashing people on his blog. Should have known he was anerd, what with his Akria video ripoff and all. And yes I do find it ironic I'm bashing him on blog...Fucking nerds.

I agree wholeheartedly on the Kanye front, but you have to admit, production-wise he's done a few things. I've actually never admired his emcee abilities.

Absolutely true of late. He doesn't even produce his own music anymore; it seems he's too afraid to make any sort of real move.

I too dug the Daft Punk, they actually did something with a pre-existing song, unlike Mr. West.

It just sucks that one must give such esoteric examples of the raw. Ah well. A little Blu and Exile, all of Kool Keith and his various guises, Prefuse 73 is ridiculous, etc. But who knows those names?
